STOMP

What a fun night!
Just before Christmas I was browsing the internet for concerts to attend with the family, and stumbled across STOMP. They had been scheduled to have two shows in Provo on January 12 & 13th. Both shows were sold out. But an additional show had just become available on the 11th. So, I quickly purchased tickets for my sweet hubs. He has wanted to see them in person, since he first saw them on HBO many years ago.
I was so excited, because for the most part, he knew everything that he was receiving this year for Christmas. That always makes me feel a little bit bad, because half of the fun of Christmas morning is the anticipation. Now really in having said that, there was no anticipation on his part, because he had no idea that the package that held the tickets was even under the tree. It was more anticipation on my part. I was so excited to see him open the package.
Anyway, the time for the concert finally arrived, and we had a great time. He said over and over that it was the best "concert" he has ever been too. I'm so glad, and I'm even more glad that he took me with him. :-)
A funny thing though...as much as we enjoyed ourselves, we both kept saying over and over, how much the boys would have enjoyed the show tonight.
It seems now, especially as the boys have gotten older, that most of what we do we tend to say that. "Oh, I wish the boys were here." I know that it is ok for us to do things ourselves, as a 'date'. But, it seems that we have much more fun these days sharing things like this with our kids. We both decided that if STOMP comes again, we will do everything we can to come up with the money to take the kids.
It will be interesting though, as the kids continue to get older, how much we will involve them in. I guess there is a fine line that needs to be drawn, to still remember as a couple, to date and have fun together. But also that there are family activities that can happen as well. Hmmm. I guess only time will tell (and the loudest part of the telling will probably be the availability of funds, that is probably the voice we will listen to most often).

I'm so glad it was awesome!

We've found the same thing you two have. Our family quickie vacation last fall was so fun that Greg was ready to have another baby. I had to remind him that it was super fun because we DIDN'T have a baby to cart around. I think that the real enjoyment that we get from our kids in the middle stages of childhood is wonderful compensation for giving up baby snuggles.

Perhaps the other reason is that once our kids hit that 'halfway' point of their childhood we begin to realize that there are only a finite number of years we CAN enjoy them this way before they'll be off making their own families and memories and we'll HAVE to go as just a couple.
