Basketball

Well, I guess with 5 boys in my house, days like today are those that I should get used to.
Because it is basketball season, our Saturdays are pretty much all used up with games. The last few have been especially interesting because not only have we had that particular sport, but A had been playing indoor soccer as well. Since the beginning of January, our "lazy day" has usually started at the crack of dawn with our first game starting at 8:00, and our last one ending around 6.
I don't know how we did it, but with all of the games we didn't end up with any overlapping, but have had some weeks that they are butted right up against each other. Those are the weeks we love, because then we have it all over in 4 hours. But Steve and I play leap frog, one of us leaving each game 15-30 minutes early so we can get the next child there on time.
Now with that long explanation of our Saturdays, I really had expected today to be a bit easier. But I was wrong...
Alex finished indoor soccer last week so we were down by one game. Then his basketball game was canceled due to a scheduling conflict at the high school. So we only ended up with E&J's game and C's. This should be a piece of cake. One at 2 and one at 4.
I had grocery shopping to do and some other tasks that had been avoided for far too long, so I was going to get so much done today.
Well, Alex got a call from the YM in the ward asking if he could come play on the ward bball team at 11am. He is only 11 but, they have been inviting him a lot to play. He was delighted though, because playing with and against boys that range in age from 12 to 18, he made several assists, and scored 5 points. WOW!
Anyway, after getting lunch for the kids between the morning and 2 game, then getting dinner for the family after the last game was over, I didn't end up getting to the grocery store until 11pm. Basically just to pick up the necessities for dinner tomorrow night.
I guess our days never quite end up like we anticipate. O' well there's always tomorrow.

Isn't it amazing how busy it all gets? Your post has reminded me why we haven't done team sports much with ours. My busy days are Tuesday-Thursday with a couple activities after school for each kid. It has left my Saturdays open but I know that will change.

I really should get Logan in soccer. Boys really DO need to play sports but neither Greg nor I grew up doing team sports so we just never think about it. I do want my boy to 'fit in' though so I guess we'd better rethink that. And, our boy is way more athletic than either Greg or I.
