So...Funny Story!
Saturday night the boys came to us and said that they really wanted to go do something fun, and a movie could be just the thing. Had I not been running around like a crazy person, I would have decoded this suggestion to be, "Hey, we really want to go see Iron Man 2". Somehow I didn't get it, and neither did my hubs.
As the boys started to navigate their way through the theater's web sites they found that Iron Man 2 was the only movie really worth seeing. Well, because of my crazy day, I suggested that the hubs take the three older boys to the movie, and me and the two little ones would stay home and do something else. I guess in the time between the first suggestion and that conversation, the hubs decided that this should be a family event and that it wouldn't be right to leave the three of us home. The only problem is that I have not yet seen Iron Man 2 and I really didn't want my 8 and 6 year olds to see it without the adults of the family previewing it. So for them, that night, that movie was not an option. I told the hubs and the oldest son, to find something else to do. Well, in all of the searching. Al found a movie that would be great. It was rated PG and was about basketball.
I was frantically trying to get showered and ready to go, after a day spent in the yard and running all over. So, I turned all of the decision making over to the oldest two men in the house. The hubs kept trying to get me to watch the trailer, to see if I thought that it would be ok. But in my frantic attempt to blow dry my hair, I told him that he was the Dad, and that he was completely capable of making a decision like that (wouldn't you think?).
Well, the decision was ultimately decided that this would be the movie we would see (insert chuckle here). The beginning of the movie was decent. A lot of basketball scenes were shown, evidently the 'star' of the show playing opposite Queen Latifa was on the NY Nicks.
The longer the movie went, the more apparent that it became, that this wasn't a movie ABOUT basketball...it was a movie where the leading man happened to PLAY basketball. This was infact a full fledged "Chick Flick", and there we were, sitting with our 5 little boys watching these two people make out in front of us. FUN! Luckily, it was fairly clean but I think the two little boys have never been so bored in all of their lives. The older three boys tried to make us think that they liked it, but I think ultimately they felt bad that they had insisted that we go see that movie when their dreams of Iron Man were shot down. They just wasted their Iron Man money on that show. Probably a few regrets there. :-)
Anyway, it was incredibly embarrassing when we realized the blunder, and that we and our 5 boys were sitting amongst a theater filled with almost all women. I'm not thinking that they are going to suggest another movie for a while, and I think it will be a really long time before I tell the hubs that he is the Dad and completely capable of making those kind of decisions.
