The Basement Project
We have accomplished a lot in our basement over the last few weeks. But sadly the funds have been depleted for now, and that means we have come to a halt. But not before the boys decided that it was done 'enough'. Over the past few weeks we have insulated, sheet rocked, and painted. But despite the fact that there is still no electricity in most of the basement, the boys decided to move in. They couldn't wait even another week. So, this is the view down their hallway. We have not been able to purchase doors yet, so they have all hung an old sheet in their doorway.
We bought a bunch of large carpet remnants, so all of the rooms do have carpet on the floor. Though it doesn't necessarily go from wall to wall. At least it gives them something to put their feet on in the morning that isn't cold.
The family room does have lights though in order to use the "television", we have had to run extension cords to the overhead projector and all of the audio gear. It is makeshift for the time being, but it is a usable room. The kids have been watching movies on the wall constantly for the last few days. They are so excited to have their "theater room" ready to go (do you like our old modge podge furniture? I've decided that we can buy new sofa's after we have doors and actual real carpet).
The boys are so excited to have their own rooms finally. They don't even care that the only light is their bedside lamp and that they currently have sheets hanging in their window. I guess, someday they will look back and laugh at how impatient they were about getting into their rooms.
This is one of the closets that the hubs and I built. Not bad for having no idea what we were doing. There are still no actual rods in there to hang clothes on. But never fear, I did purchase those today, and hopefully, I can get them installed tomorrow. I know that the boys would like to actually move their clothes in (don't you love all of the basketballs on the top shelf? I'm thinking the oldest son needs to find a hobby...).
The twins had serious door issues. They couldn't believe at first that I wouldn't let them hang a sheet over their doorway. All they wanted was to hang keep out signs on their doors. They finally each had their own space and didn't want anyone to violate that. So, I finally consented to hang the sheets so that they could post their signs. Hopefully they will have actual doors soon! I have to keep reminding myself that we are baby stepping it. At least the boys are in their rooms, The hubs is in his office and I can relax a little bit for the first time in weeks.
By the way, the best part of this is that the hubs finally got his office. Having him work from home is honestly pretty cool. However, on the first day of spring break when the kids and I had all vowed to sleep in, I was not happy to hear that he was called at 5:15am to fix a problem at work. He was on the computer and phone, in my bedroom, for several hours. Needless to say, I was awake at 5:15 and never got back to sleep. I am ever so grateful for his new office.

You guys have done such a great job on the basement! I'm totally jealous! The boys will be just fine with sheets for doors for now. I'm glad the work-at-home thing is working out too. It will be even easier once Tyler goes to school full time (of course, you'll both have to survive the summer first).
We're trying to get ours going. Of course, it would help if I got off the computer and started doing the design I'm supposed to have done by 10:00 am when it's 10:00 pm now. Gah!
