For those of you who know me, I'm sure that Lake Powell doesn't exactly fit the mold for the perfect family vacation, for me. Well, it really doesn't. There isn't much in life that I don't like, but the Sun is one of them. Actually, the sun is the only thing that I actually despise. But mix that with water and I usually run screaming. Being fair skinned and freckled, I don't tan...at all! I burn. Well FRY is more like it. I hadn't been to Lake Powell in 21 years, and back then I came home looking like a tomato. It was painful. In all of our trips to California over the years, we have visited the beach twice, and one of those trips was during sunset. The other, was torture. I ran around with sunscreen, spraying myself and my boys over and over all day.
But with all of the stress that our family has been through this summer with the trek preparations, when Steve's sister invited us to go to Lake Powell with her family, we jumped on it. It really had never been a consideration before. It would never have occurred to me. Water, sun....not so much. My thoughts for a vacation were to head north to clouds and rain...
Anyway, we made the 6 hour trek to Page, Az on Thursday night, then spent Friday and Saturday on the lake riding Jet Ski's until we were all sore. But I am happy to say None of us got sunburned (except steve on the two places on his legs that I missed. Oops) I reapplied sunscreen often and used 50 and 70 spf. It all seemed to work, and gave me some hope that water sports may not be entirely off limits for my famiy in the future.
The boys loved their weekend. They told us over and over that it was the funnest trip they've ever taken. I just hope that it made up for the summer of neglect.
On the trip home we made a small detour to Bryce Canyon. A place We hadn't visited since before Alex was born. The boys loved it as well, and want to plan a trip back there soon, just for hiking the canyon (what can I say,,, they are their fathers son's.).

I'm so glad you all had a great time! I'm sad we aren't going to be able to go this fall. I was kinda starting to dig the whole 'Lake Powell Lifestyle'- probably because it's living beyond our means to have it! LOL!
It really is one of the most stunning places on earth though.
