Epic Fail!

So, I guess it wasn't an EPIC fail...but it was a fail none the less.

Evidently, I am NOT good at working with yeast. I must have had the water too hot, or maybe it was too cold, or maybe yet, it was old and not active anymore. I did pull the yeast out of my food storage. I couldn't tell you how long it has been there. My Mother gave it to me at one point so that she could assure that my children would at least have bread if ever we had to live on what we have stored. Little did my Mother know it would do me no good, if I had no idea how to use it...

So, we started by following a recipe we found on the internet. Josh thought it sounded great because it had caramel in the bottom of the pan so they would be nice and gooey. So, we did as it said and added all of the ingredients, including the warm water and yeast to the mixer, and we mixed.

The boys were ever so entertained...

Once we set the dough aside to rise we started working on the caramel part. (this was delicious and worked out fantastically. Too bad that nothing else did. :-(

So this is what the dough looked like when it finished mixing....and this is what it looked like after 2 hours set aside to rise. It didn't change a bit. EPIC FAIL!

But we are nothing if not resourceful. Josh was so excited about making the rolls, that he decided that even if the dough didn't do what it was supposed to do, we could make the rolls anyway. So, we rolled out this sticky, elasticy, mess.

We rolled them, slathered them in butter and cinnamon and placed them in the caramel and baked them.

Thanks to heavenly grace, or maybe it was just the eggs, they grew slightly in the oven but were still not very airy.

The kids frosted them and ate them and complimented me (ya they are great kids) on the fine rolls that we made together. So, maybe it wasn't as epic a fail as I saw it. My kids got their rolls, and gave compliments. Plus, we got to do it all together.

We are going to try it again, but I think I'm going to have to get some tips on how to work with yeast first. Or maybe a better recipe, or maybe just some new yeast. Hmmmmm...

Well, I'll let you know if it goes any better the second time.

I think they sound awesome! Way to go on even giving it a try.

I know that blogs can make you feel insignificant, but you're not...at all! Stacie, I think you're awesome and have great bunch of kids to boot.
